Extracurricular programs can make many valuable contributions to the entire St. Mary educational process.  Many of the lessons learned and habits acquired will benefit student athletes for years to come.  In order for these contributions to be present, only qualified students can be involved in athletics and extra-curricular activities.  Guidelines have been established to determine the students deserving to represent St. Mary Catholic School.

All athletic participants must follow and meet the guidelines set by the CSAL.  This includes all students participating in a sport with Newton USD 373.  These guidelines will be closely monitored and are found in the handbook pgs. 6-10.

St. Mary Catholic School is a KSHSAA member and abides by the rules governed by this organization.

St. Mary teams include volleyball, basketball, track and field, and cheerleading.  In 2012-13, St. Mary had a middle school soccer team for the first time.  St. Mary students participate with USD 373 through a cooperative agreement in the sports of cross country, football, wrestling, and tennis as well as any sports in which St. Mary cannot field a team.

The CSAL Soccer Showcase took place at Bishop Carroll on May 14.  The boys split winning one and losing one while the girls took home the championship with a 2-0 victory! Thanks Coach Heppler for your help!

Track results are posted on the right side of the page and are in order by gender/grade/event.  Thank you to Brenda Blaufuss, Stephanie Swift, Marcia Mathews and Richard Mick for your help with the track team!

Basketball began with a scrimmage at Yoder.  Pictures below are from the middle boys and girls teams.  The girls won the scrimmage 27-17 while the boys lost 39-38.  The girls team finished the season 9-1 and 2nd place overall.  The boys finished 2-8.  The girls went on to win the CSAL championship in the post-season.  Thank you to coaches Mr. Mick, Mr. Eustace and Mr. and Mrs. Bowling for your time in working with our teams.
