NEW YEAR HAPPENINGS!

I pray that everyone had a blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year.

We are back in class and so much to be thankful for. December was so good to us with our First Reconciliation, St. Nicholas Day, St. Juan Diego and Our Lady of Guadalupe, Christmas program, making parent gifts, Christmas party and Christmas break. We enjoyed every moment.

This month has us learning about many saints who played a big role in making Catholic Schools possible in America.

Today, the second and fifth grade buddies celebrated Epiphany, the gifts of the wise men. It was so cool. We enjoyed eating the cake to see who may be highly blessed. Nesbeth, a 5th grade friend, found the baby in her piece of cake. She was highly blessed for the day! She was so happy and we were happy for her. The lemon cake was delicious.

"Walking in Sister's Shoes" began today. We watched a video about St. Katharine Drexel. She was a very generous lady. We look forward to participating in the activities that will help us appreciate this wonderful and holy saint.

"I have a Dream" we are reading about Martin Luther King Jr. and what he did for our country. We can all dream big too and help our world. He was a great man.

The second grade class are reading the chapter book, Flat Stanley, by Jeff Brown. We look forward to sending our very own Stanley out to discover the great state of Kansas.

THE GIVING TREE

The second grade class and Mrs. Soyez would like to thank those responsible for the success of THE GIVING TREE. We have collected many items from our list and have put them to use. It is a blessing to have so many people care enough for our children that they take time and treasure to help with supplies for the classroom. A heartfelt thanks to all. God's Blessings!

Welcome to Our Pad...Second Grade

WELCOME TO OUR PAD...SECOND GRADE

Hello, my name is Mrs. Soyez. As the second grade teacher I accept the challenge of helping your child to discover the value and love of learning with a desire to become a life long learner. I will do my part to instill in them the importance of being productive and caring citizens in our faith, school, community, country and world.I believe I am a teacher who is growing and learning everyday. I have my masters degree from Wichita State University. I am trained in Catechesis of the Good Shepherd and enjoy taking my students to the Atrium. However, it is here in the second grade classroom that I have learned many of life's lessons. I feel blessed to be a part of the St. Mary Catholic School family.

This year your child will continue their faith journey by preparing to receive two very important sacraments. I feel as their teacher it is my responsibility to assist parents in helping their child grow in their love for God and others. I want them to know that God loves them and will always be with them.

My husband, Marty and I have been married for 30 years. We have no children of our own-but, we belong to a very large extended family. We enjoy sharing their experiences and celebrations. We have dog. His name is Konner. He is about 7 years old. Marty and I both love dogs and enjoy having Konner around. I look forward to the new school year. Thank you for allowing me to be a small part of your child's faith journey.
